Why run multimedia 'projects' in order to deliver work for clients?

A project in multimedia comprises a series of tasks that deliver a combination of media and have a computer component to integrate them.
The primary reasons for running a multimedia project is to make sure that it would be delivery on time, stay within the budget, meet customer requirements, improve their value, and in particular an efficient way of managing risks.

Clients will usually want a fixed price up front, and will not want to change that if circumstances change. Some clients will be inexperienced in the costs of multimedia project, and will expect you to be able to give them an estimate during the first meeting.
You can't really work out an estimate unless you run a multimedia project.

On projects, managing risk are fairly complicated and the consequences can be costly. But managing projects in fear can also be damaging because risks are tied to rewards. And so risk management requires courage on the part of project managers, teams and stakeholders.

Effective risk management is a team sport. It requires the active participation of everyone in and around the project, from team members to executives to customers, with the project manager as moderator and documentarian. The organization must support risk management with clear processes, tools and resources. And, perhaps most important, successful risk management depends upon a culture that encourages honest, ongoing communication about risks. In doing so, "bad" risks can be mitigated sooner--and
"good" ones, bearing unexpected opportunities, can be explored deeper.

Most project managers practice a form of risk management or they're not managing projects for long. They make a list of potential risks and probabilities at the outset of the initiative and move on.
One ways for reduce your risks is to manage the risk better, break the project as well as the total project costs down into various phases. The key here is to identify discrete deliverables at the end of each phase. Each deliverable will be signed off by the client if found acceptable and complying to the specified requirements. The client will make a payment against each sign off.
